The Way You Move Changes When You Leave the Mat 🙏

Most of us get used to practicing inside a defined space. The mat becomes familiar. It gives a sense of orientation and consistency, and I have found that it can subtly shape how movement is approached. In my own practice, stepping off the mat changed how I relate to space. There is less sense of staying contained, and more awareness of where I am as I move. As this becomes familiar, the body starts to organize in a different way. Steps naturally travel. Transitions expand and adjust. It begins to feel more connected to how movement shows up in other environments, where space is constantly shifting and there is nothing fixed beneath you.
