Crosspro/Thork Racing crash bars review for the AJP PR7︱Cross Training Adventure

Our review of the Crosspro crash bars for the AJP PR7 supplied by Thork Racing. Incredibly light which suits the PR7. But are they tough enough? Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. Two of the guys I ride with have fitted crash bars to their AJP PR7s. They both bought the Crosspro crash bars through Thork Racing so here is a quick review based on their opinions. Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. But first... why fit crash bars instead of radiator guards? There are a few benefits. Crash bars also protect your plastic panels, fuel tank and fairings (depending on your motorbike model). Crash bars also provide an extra spot for mounting your luggage and also a pair of auxiliary lights. The potential drawback is crash bars are usually a bit heavier than radiator guards. Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes. But these Crosspro crash bars don't weigh much more than a set of radiator guards because they are made of alloy. And there's a wide range of colours too. Fitment. The crash bars came with detailed instructions. It was good to see everything lined up perfectly. In the past we have noticed sometimes a bit of pressure was needed to bend the bars to line up the bolts. The diameter of the tubes is 25mm. The alloy thickness is 3mm. One thing to keep in mind is that using alloy is a deliberate compromise between protection and weight. There are crash bar manufacturers who use heavy gauge steel to make their product virtually indestructible. A great example is Motortek who do brutal tests on their crash bars. But their crash bars are comparatively very heavy and more suited to large adventure motorbikes. If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids. Personally we think these alloy crash bars are a great choice for the PR7 because you aren't adding much to the overall weight. The downside? If the impact is strong enough, you will bend these crash bars. This has happened a few times for one of our riders. And in some cases one of the welds may break and you will need a TIG welder to fix them. But as one of our riders said, he considers his crash bars to be sacrificial protection. If there is eventually a crash where he can't bend them back into place, he will simply buy a new set and be happy that he hasn't paid a fortune for new radiators and side panels. These are quite expensive on the AJP PR7! What is your experience with crash bars? Have you fitted a set to a PR7? Let us know in the comments. We have occasional detours to places like Vietnam, Cambodia, Romania and Canada. This is one of our three channels, there's also a Cross Training Trials channel, and a Cross Training Enduro channel. All three are equally dodgy. We are the 27th most watched dirt channel in Uzbekistan. We have won the polished turd award five years in a row. And we have a world record 25 class action lawsuits for inaccurate information. We think the whole motorbike scene is getting too commercial. So called dual sport riding reviews are just glossy ads nowdays. Everyone is trying to sell you stuff you don't need, convince you to buy the latest model with anodized coffee cup holders for your trips to the coffee shop. Of course if you are cashed up and into bling, go for it. All we are saying is there's also the budget option for adventure riding. And it won't hold you back. Why? We reckon it's 80% the rider and 20% the bike. So the Cross Training Adventure focus is just get out there and have fun on two wheels. Instead of obsessing over the latest blinged out Beemer, which tyres to fit or spending a fortune on your suspension or billet alloy gas cap. So most of our adventure riding vids will feature the much loved bush pig, the Suzuki DR650. And we've done a 10 part series on how to unleash the mighty beast that lurks within. What else? Cross Training Adventure actively avoids sponsorship. We like doing seriously critical reviews. Manufacturers make some really bad mistakes. and there is a lot of dodgy crap being sold out there. Instead of glowing dual sport reviews for kickbacks or free product, we will try to keep the buggers honest. So subscribe. Or don't subscribe to our Cross Training Adventure riding channel. The main thing is get out and ride while you can with dual sport riding or Adventure riding in Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Romania and beyond! So check out Cross Training Adventure.
