The Grindylow part 5: where she visits the vet

The Grindylow is an adult female Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was trapped in a glass swimming pool enclosure, which was lucky for her because the resident dogs would have gotten to her otherwise. When the MOP (member of public) found her she called for rescue. The Grindylow isn't a happy chappie, but she also doesn't seem to be injured in any major way. She's turned into a cranky girl who is perfectly able to hang and eat, and attack her food and have a food fight after massacring the food first. I sent her to an aviary with buddies for a few days to make sure she was eating and behaving normally with the other batties. She was doing well in care once she wasn't a single bat in a cage in my place, so I took for hard release back into the colony, but she couldn't fly. This footage takes up where we left off about a month ago. I took her to the vet for x-rays and assessment of why she was unable to fly. The xrays were fine, no fractures, but we did a blood test to see if perhaps she had capture myopathy, where the muscles break down and eventually lead to heart then renal failure. The only thing we could find were the lesions on her leg which we noticed when she didn't fly. It's entirely possible she suffered a non fatal electrocution injury which has left her weak and moving around poorly. A Grindylow is a kind of still-water mermaid who has tentacles below the waterline. Given this batty's rescue location, and the still-water swimming pool water by the secluded bay water, it seemed to be a suitable name for a batty of the grabbiness ilk. (think at least octo-tentacles with scythe tips) Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status.
