People often assume schizophrenia always looks like chaos or crisis, but sometimes it looks surprisingly ordinary. I can spend an afternoon at home relaxing on the couch, watching TV, scrolling on my phone, or doing chores while casually responding to hallucinations. To someone else, it might seem strange to see me talking out loud, but for me, it's part of navigating my day. The hallucinations don't disappear just because I'm at home—they can become part of the background of everyday life. Living with schizophrenia isn't always dramatic; sometimes it's simply learning how to exist, carry on, and make it through a normal day while experiencing something most people can't see or hear. Hi, I’m Michelle, I live with schizophrenia. To show that my psychosis isn’t violent or dangerous, I set up a security camera in my apartment. What it captures is me on my couch: talking to myself, reacting to things no one else sees, making weird faces… but never hurting anyone. I share this because visibility matters, and people deserve to know what schizophrenia really looks like. - Michelle Hammer https://www.schizophrenic.nyc IG: https://www.Instagram.com/schizophrenic.nyc TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@schizophrenic.nyc TW: https://twitter.com/schizophrenicny TH: https://www.threads.net/@schizophrenic.nyc #schizophreniaawareness #schizophreniasupport #mentalhealthadvocate #schizoaffective #psychosisawareness #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #depressionawareness #anxietyawareness #psychology #psychologyfacts #shorts #livingwellwithschizophrenia
