Inside La Familia: Dale Sutherland's Undercover Cartel Operation | FULL DOCUMENTARY

In Washington D.C. in 2009, undercover officer Dale Sutherland works with an informant named Carlito to investigate a connection to La Familia, a cartel based in Michoacán, Mexico. Posing as a broker with access to drug buyers, Dale begins negotiating with men linked to the cartel. The operation starts with a front built around a recording studio, where Dale presents himself as a middleman rather than a drug dealer. As trust develops, the investigation moves from small cocaine deals to meetings with El Flaco, hidden compartments, and a trip to Atlanta involving crystal meth. The film follows the risks of the case as Dale works with local police, Immigration, Georgia law enforcement and the DEA. A coordinated arrest in North Carolina and searches in Georgia lead to what is described as the biggest crystal meth seizure in D.C. police history. The episode also looks back on the Manic Studio operation, Dale’s retirement, and his later work as a pastor focused on community outreach.
