I was WRONG: The Tesla Model Y L is Actually Quite Well Engineered

Tesla have taken the world's best-selling electric car and... ELONgated it (see what I did there?). The Model Y L has now been chopped & stretched to fit six seats, a bigger battery for more range, and a few more luxuries. And despite my initial suspicion that Tesla had simply attacked a normal Model Y with a hacksaw and a tape measure on a Friday afternoon, this large family car turned out to be impressively well thought out; more so than I expected, with every possible space being maximised. Yes, it’s longer. Yes, it’s heavier. But somehow it still feels secure on the corners despite its 3040 mm wheelbase. It still goes hard off the mark, still charges relatively quickly and still feels unmistakably Tesla, just with more space and practicality. In this review I cover: - What’s actually different compared to the regular Model Y - Third-row space and practicality - Real-world range expectations - Boot space and storage - Safety, towing and family usability - And whether Tesla compromised the original, winning Model Y formula There’s also some genuinely clever engineering hidden throughout this car, from its roof line to its 3rd row seat amenities, but what surprised me is how these modifications don't feel (or look) slapdash. In fact, these engineering changes have been integrated so cleanly that most people probably won’t even realise it’s the larger version unless you park one beside a normal Model Y and take a moment to study them. And somehow, against the odds, it doesn’t look like a melted block of cheese, which is miraculous in the world of stretched SUVs. The result is an EV that feels like Tesla actually listened to families for once. 📽️IN THIS VIDEO: 0:00 - Introduction 1:51 - It's ain't slow! 2:26 - Motor specs 3:17 - Exterior changes 4:32 - Interior changes 6:23 - 3rd row space 7:38 - Terrible financial advice... 8:17 - Is the range realistic? 9:17 - Charging speed 10:08 - No parcel shelf? 10:35 - 2nd row space with folded seats 10:58 - Rear access options 11:22 - Boot space 12:33 - Fartment space 12:52 - Towing capacity 13:07 - How to protect your boot lid 13:53 - Safety 14:37 - Do you sweat in the 3rd row? 💚MENTIONED IN THIS VIDEO: Tesla Full Self Driving kiwi challenges: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DKHOHH_BzY ⚡JOIN US: Keen on cutting your carbon footprint?
