Billy Queen was an undercover agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He spent almost three years embedded in the Mongols Motorcycle club. Queen speaks to Business Insider about the internal workings of the Mongols, how he rose to become an officer in the club, its hierarchy, its rules, and its war with the Hells Angels. In 2000, his infiltration led to the arrest and conviction of 53 members. Queen also covers his upbringing as the son of an ATF agent and his military service in Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Division and Special Forces, which he completed before joining the ATF. He describes the training and skills required for undercover work, emphasizing that it is an innate talent more than a learned skill.
