Armed parolee fatally shot by NYPD during Bronx apartment encounter

A man is dead after being shot by police in Mott Haven on Thursday morning. Police say they arrived at 105 Willis Ave. around 6:45 a.m. to look for 44-year-old Lucien Colon. Police say he's a known sex offender in New York State and has active bench and parole warrants. When officers got to the apartment door, Colon's girlfriend opened the door and gave officers permission to enter. Police say they entered the bedroom and found Colon with a gun in his hand. Police asked him to show them his hands and he responded that he had a gun. Officers repeatedly asked him to step out of the room and he responded by saying, "It's not going to happen." Officers interacted with Colon for a minute and a half as they tried to de-escalate the situation. They gave him multiple commands to drop the weapon.
