VALERIE NICOLE PELLES Revoked in 2022 for INVOLVEMENT WITH INMATES & SMUGGLING CONTRABAND https://shieldsofshame.com/valerie-pelles-the-alcoholic-jail-cop/ Georgia Corrections Officer Arrested After Allegedly Bringing Alcohol and Cigarettes Into State Prison ALTO, GEORGIA A Georgia Department of Corrections officer was arrested after investigators say she attempted to bring contraband into Lee Arrendale State Prison, one of Georgia's largest correctional facilities for female inmates. According to internal affairs records obtained by Shields of Shame, Correctional Officer Valerie Nicole Pelles was stopped while returning from a break during the early morning hours of January 6, 2020. Prison supervisors allegedly discovered cigarettes hidden in her clothing and an alcoholic beverage inside a McDonald's cup she carried through the prison's security checkpoint. The incident began around 2:30 a.m. when Pelles returned to the prison's front entrance after leaving the facility during her break. Investigators state that Lieutenant Brittany Dooley searched Pelles and found cigarettes concealed in her pants pocket as she attempted to re-enter the institution. But the cigarettes were only part of the problem. According to Special Agent Michael Stephens, prison administrators informed him that Pelles had also brought a McDonald's cup containing an alcoholic beverage into the prison. During an interview, Pelles admitted the cup contained Four Loko, an alcoholic energy drink. Investigators later searched her vehicle and reportedly found a partially consumed can of Four Loko inside. Pelles told investigators the cigarettes were accidentally left in her pocket after a smoke break and that she forgot they were there when she returned to work. She acknowledged, however, that she intentionally brought the alcoholic beverage onto prison property. The investigation took a more serious turn after Lieutenant Dooley revealed she had discovered a handwritten note at Pelles' workstation before the incident. According to the internal affairs report, the note suggested that certain items were going to be sold "for ten dollars each," prompting prison officials to closely monitor Pelles when she returned from break. Investigators also reviewed inmate connections. One inmate denied any relationship with Pelles and denied receiving contraband, while another inmate refused to be interviewed. Special Agent Stephens ultimately secured arrest warrants charging Pelles with Violation of Oath of Office, Possession of Prohibited Items, and Crossing the Guard Line with Intoxicants. She was taken into custody and transported to the Habersham County Jail.Records show the Georgia Department of Corrections later terminated Pelles' employment. A separation notice and disciplinary records were included in her personnel file reviewed during the investigation. The case highlights an ongoing concern within correctional facilities nationwide: contraband entering secure institutions through staff rather than inmates. While prison officials routinely focus on inmate smuggling operations, internal investigations have repeatedly shown that employees can become a significant source of prohibited items behind prison walls. In this case, investigators concluded that Pelles attempted to bring tobacco products into the prison and admitted bringing alcohol through the guard line, leading to criminal charges and the end of her career with the Georgia Department of Corrections.
