Weed trees were growing way past the fence line, the grass was crazy tall, and there was debris all over the place. So I told her I'd come check it out. When I got there she recognized me right away and was fighting back tears before I even said a word. She told me she'd been dealing with some serious health issues. In October she was hospitalized and was diagnosed with kidney disease, heart disease, and COPD. She's been on oxygen and she told me she actually went out there one day to try pulling some weeds on her own. She had to bring a little folding chair just to sit down and rest, and still couldn't make a dent in it. The landlord just moved her in and left all of that for her to deal with, which made it even harder to hear. She's only been there three months and never got a fair start. So I told her I'd take care of the whole thing, completely free of charge. I spent the entire day edging the front, cutting down all the tall grass, clearing out the weed trees along the fence line, cleaning up the side brush, and getting that back patio cleared off so she could actually use it again. When I brought her out back to see it, she just stood there with her hand over her mouth. She said her neighbor told her they'd never seen this place look like that in twenty years of living next door.
