You all know the feeling: you look at a piece of software, and whether it works well or not, you ask yourself "Why not just rewrite it in Rust?" It is tempting to say that the answer to this question should be always "yes". But in reality, most of the time, it should perhaps be no. I have lead 3 large rewrites of existing pieces of software in my life, including Turso, which is a rewrite of SQLite - the most battle tested software on earth. One of them into C++, two of them into Rust. And in this talk I will tell you when you should confidently answer "yes" to that question, and how to make sure your rewrite is the envy of the world.
