Tube Feeding Colostrum To Newborn Lamb

Tube feeding colostrum to newborn lambs is something we do with all the lambs born at Ewetopia Farms. Tube feeding guarantees that the lamb gets its first correct dose of colostrum minutes after birth. This takes away worrying if the lamb sucked, latched on, and/or got enough colostrum on its own. Sometimes it can take critical hours for a lamb to figure it out on their own. After Tube feeding, the lamb now has that time to figure it out and mom has time to pick off the lamb, eat and rest, and deliver her placenta. It is a procedure that has taken the stress off us as sheep farmers and has led to a huge reduction in lamb losses and future interventions due to having weak or hypothermic lambs.
