Saving a Mother Raccoon with a Plastic Lid Stuck on Her Paw

While some of the footage in this video may be difficult to watch, we felt it was important to share the very real consequences that littering has on wild animals and to highlight the situations that Toronto Wildlife Centre deals with every day. In this video, join us behind the scenes as we work alongside the incredible team at Toronto Wildlife Centre to help a mother raccoon in need. What began as a routine wildlife call involving a raccoon living beneath a home addition quickly became a reminder of how human activity can have devastating impacts on our local wildlife. Thanks to the expertise and guidance of Toronto Wildlife Centre, this mother raccoon received the help she needed. After receiving veterinary care, she was safely returned to her den and reunited with her babies. Unfortunately, our camera battery died before we could capture the mother relocating her babies the night after her TWC visit. However, that night she successfully moved her babies from their den site under the deck to a new location. A few nights later, she returned to check on her former den site. We kept our Reolink camera in place to monitor the area and were relieved to see that she appeared healthy and was doing well. This rescue highlights the importance of wildlife rehabilitation organizations and the critical role they play in helping injured, orphaned, and distressed wild animals throughout the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. Their team works tirelessly every day to give wild animals a second chance, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work together to help wildlife in need.
