Picking Update: Since so many people reached out to me with questions regarding my last few picking videos, I decided you to keep you in the loop with some recent insights and tips. As some of you rightfully noted, my pick is a bit more downward oriented these days when doing fast picking runs. I feel like that gets me the best tone. Naturally upstroke escape string changes would feel a lot easier in comparison. So I spent some extra time making adjustments to my downstroke escapes as to not be pigenholed into a single string changes type. Compared to the videos from like december, you’ll notice my wrist has flattened quite a bit. I’ve also added a little pressure on the thumb to flatten the angle of the pick. The pick trajectory is a little more flat/sideways, as compared to the linear into/out of the string motion of the upstroke escapes. If you’re anything like me, make yourself aware of every single string changes type and what must physcally happen to accomplish it.
