This engine may be small, but the failures are often massive. In today's video, I am tearing down of a Smart Fortwo 0.8L 3-cylinder Diesel engine to find out exactly why it ended up on the scrap bin. These tiny powerplants are famous for their engineering—and notorious for their appetite for oil and burnt valves, turbos, and in this case, hydraulic lifters! I'll strip this motor down to the bare block, inspecting the engine head, the timing set, and the reciprocating assembly to identify why at 300,000km this engine was condemned.
