Five pendulums. Each one starts at almost exactly the same position, differing by just 0.002 radians, less than a tenth of a degree. Within seconds, they're in completely different places. This is deterministic chaos. The equations governing each pendulum are exact, no randomness, no approximation. Given perfect initial conditions, you'd get perfect predictability. But in reality, any measurement has finite precision. And for a double pendulum, that tiny imprecision grows exponentially fast. This is the butterfly effect, visualised. The same equations produce the same result when starting conditions are identical. But make them almost identical? The divergence is rapid and complete. Weather forecasting has the same problem. At some horizon, the imprecision of measurement wins. No amount of computing power changes this, it's a fundamental property of chaotic systems.
