Jack Brabham’s BT19 | Australia's most famous race car

In 1966, Sir Jack Brabham achieved the impossible. At the conclusion of the 1966 Formula 1® season he'd claimed both the Drivers' World Championship and the Constructors’ World Championship, the remarkable part of that - he built the car himself. The Repco-Brabham BT19 wasn’t just a race car, it was an Australian engineering feat that conquered the world on the biggest stage. The achievement is the only one of its kind in the sport's history, and one that will never happen again. Sixty years later, the Repco-Brabham BT19 comes to Albert Park to celebrate the 60th anniversary of this all-conquering achievement, and in a rare treat for fans, will again take to the circuit for a famous demonstration with the iconic car driven by Sir Jack Brabham's grandson Sam Brabham. The Repco-Brabham BT19 was the 100th inductee into the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame, and first car to be recognised with the honour. In 2026, the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix™ pays tribute to the iconic machine that was was designed and built by a legend and carries the name of the most famous family in Australian motorsport. Since 1996, the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix™ has called Melbourne and the iconic Albert Park track home, with the event a feature on the city's annual calendar of major events.
