Description
Off to James H Fullard Nature Reserve as The Wandering Shepherds today. This is a trail along the Rideau Canal near Elgin, Ontario, Canada. It is one we hike frequently when we don't have a lot of time but need a break from Ewetopia Farms and sheep farming. It is an easy, level trail but packs a punch. There is lots of wildlife from deers and beavers to snakes and turtles plus lots of waterfowl and song birds. Then, there are the beautiful views, granite outlooks, and water features which make this trail one of our favorite short trails. However, this day we had an extreme nature experience as we were inundated by ticks! Ticks can carry Lyme disease so you have to remove them immediately. It was kind of scary. The takeaway is to definitely do a thorough tick check when visiting this trail.
We added a short trip to Davis Lock just minutes away to end this journey.
