Description
Manual free wheeling hubs were, once, commonplace on the majority of 4x4s on the road, some having them fitted as Standard Equipment from the factory. These days, not so much, Suzuki don't even offer them as an optional extra on their current model Jimny, the Generation 4.
They are still available through the 'aftermarket' suppliers for the Jimny & the majority of other models of 4x4s. There are some real benefits to fitting Manually activated front locking hubs, the majority of Automatically locking or those operated by vacuum tend to become rather unreliable, often disconnecting drive to the wheel when under high levels of torque.
This can not only cause significant damage to your drive train due to shock loading but also leave you stranded with no drive to your front wheels.
In this video I explain the drive train layout for Part Time 4x4s, the benefits of fitting Manual Free Wheeling hubs & the reasons benefits these have over both Automatic locing hubs & vehicles that have no locking hubs fitted.
I'm sure this video will be helpful to the majority of 4x4 owners who use their vehicles for towing or off-road too...
Enjoy
Andy
