Description
Another week has drifted by within the agreeable confines of Downing Street, which, much like a slightly overfurnished provincial hotel, continues to host an improbable number of Very Important People who seem perpetually on the brink of discussing Something Grave.
The humans tell me it has all been about “international diplomacy” and “security concerns,” though from my vantage point—primarily a sun-warmed patch of carpet—it appeared to involve a great deal of standing about in suits and trying not to look like they’d misplaced something crucial. There was, I gather, a significant meeting between my own personal staff member and the personal staff member of one Nico Carney—another chap named Carney, Mark this time. One assumes they compared notes on important matters, though I didn’t see a single one of them check under the sofa, which is where all truly important things eventually end up.
The subject, I’m told, was the Middle East and shipping disruptions. I made the executive decision to remain entirely absent from the official photographs—a masterclass in statesmanship, really—and instead devoted myself to a deeply necessary nap. Diplomacy, as it turns out, is exhausting even when you’re not directly involved.
There was also a return visit from Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who seems a perfectly decent fellow, though last time he came I very nearly triggered what historians might have called The Great Photographic Incident. One of his photographers failed to appreciate the importance of watching where one places one’s feet and came perilously close to stepping on me. I chose magnanimity and refrained from legal action; one must think of the optics.
I haven’t ventured outdoors much this week—one can only supervise so many comings and goings—but I did observe some gardening activity. This is, without question, the most promising development of all. Freshly mowed grass.
Until next time - Keep calm and Larry on.
