Why Ford Ecoboost Engines Fail! 2 0L Turbo Teardown

Here’s a look inside the Ford 2.0L Ecoboost Turbocharged engine and how it works! This engine is out of a 2018 Ford Escape and had a headgasket related failure. Unfortunately, these issues are common on these engines, due to the engine block design having slot between adjacent cylinder walls. This slit was introduced to aid with cooling, as this uses a semi-closed block design. Unfortunately, the slit makes the headgasket sealing surface between the combustion gases and the cooling jacket too small to properly seal, and after a while, it blows through, allowing gases to enter the coolant chamber and vise versa. Combustion can no longer hold and the engine will suffer from misfires. Other notable features are direct injection, vacuum pump, the use of an integrated PCV baffle in the plastic valve cover, plastic thermostat housing and a 3-to-1 exhaust manifold integrated into the head. While failures are inevitable, it is advised to keep an eye on coolant levels and temperatures for tell tail signs failure is imminent and not to overheat the vehicle.
