Description

It has not, I should report, been an especially tranquil week here at 10 Downing Street. There has been a great deal of telephoning, keyboard tapping and the sort of purposeful marching up and down corridors that humans do when they wish to appear extremely busy. From what I can gather, it concerns a war somewhere in the Middle East, which sounds terribly serious and well above my pay grade. As regular viewers will know, I maintain a strict policy of political neutrality. My official duties extend only to the pursuit of mice, the strategic acquisition of naps, and the occasional evaluation of tuna sandwiches. One curious development I did notice this week is that my manservant — the current occupant of the big office upstairs, Keir Starmer — has apparently recruited several energetic young members of something called Gen-Z to follow him about with cameras for a platform known as TikTok. Naturally, I conducted a brief inspection of the figures (purely in the interest of national security, you understand). Last count: roughly 231,000 followers. I would wager my last tin of tuna that a considerable portion of them are members of the media. Which does rather beg the question of why quite so many journalists continue to camp outside the gates of Number 10 when they could simply watch the videos and save themselves a good deal of standing about in the cold. Meanwhile, my good friend Justin Ng — who, to the best of my knowledge, lives somewhere just beyond the front door and is responsible for many of my more flattering portraits — has apparently been having a spot of trouble on something called X. Now I do not involve myself in social media. Frankly, I find it interferes with napping. But I am told that a few individuals have been making rather unpleasant and entirely unfounded claims about him. This strikes me as terribly unfair. Justin is a thoroughly decent fellow who takes excellent photographs of me and occasionally arrives with small treats — a quality that places him several rungs above certain individuals I share a residence with. So if you would be so kind, do leave him alone. I rely on the man. He is an important part of my staff. And so another week draws to a close, the world appears somewhat more turbulent than before, and the humans continue to scurry about trying to organise everything. Personally, I remain convinced that if cats were placed in charge, the planet would be a far calmer and considerably better-fed place. Until next time. #cats #larrythecat #cutecat
