The Old Bull Across From Emu Flat || Wild NT Water Buffalo We call it Emu Flat, and this old feral water buffalo bull emerged from the distant retirement village spring to have one last crack at becoming a king for a moment over the little realm there, with its hidden little shady mud hole that is home to a mob of cows and calves as well as a freshwater crocodile and some bird, perhaps a crow or a kookaburra, who is a serial killer of highly destructive cane toads. This old king was not long for this world, being the dying season before the rains arrive. Natural death is not pleasant and involves weakening, starving due to lack of teeth, harassment by dingos, dehydration, collapse, getting slowly cooked in the heat while being eaten alive by those same dingos plus the ants, eagles and crows. This particular old king was spared all that thanks to a young conservationist who hunted him cleanly and ethically with a classic old rifle. #buffalo #waterbuffalo #wildlife
