Description
With all the valves, valve springs & stem seals removed we now have access to complete the interal measurements of the valve guides. This isn't a difficult job, though it does rerquire at the very least a set of ball gauges & micrometer ideally or good quality digital verniers at a push.
In this video I use a mini-bore gauge made by INSIZE, a really well made tool that not only increases the accuracy of the readings but also the reduced the time to complete the inspection too. The video includes how to setup a bore gauge using a Micrometer - an essential process to be able to obtain meaningfull readings on the tool.
So, in this video we complete a full set of internal measurements on cylinder 1's intake & exhaust valve guides.
If you are planning a cylinder head or engine rebuild it's important you complete all of the necessary checks to avoid premature failure of the engine further down the line.
A set of ball gauges is around $80 new, though you can often pick them up second hand much cheaper. Analogue type Micrometers are also relatively cheap these days too so even if you are on a budget project it's still possible to complete these important checks.
Hope you find the video helpful.
All the best
Andy
