Located after the Dark Arts section of the Interior Sets, the Forbidden Forest transports guests into one of Hogwarts' most dangerous locations. Visitors who prefer to avoid the giant spiders, Argog's lair and the lighting effects can bypass part of the experience by taking the optional shortcut located just after Buckbeak the Hippogriff. Home to an abundance of magical creatures, the Forbidden Forest first appeared in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone when Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, and Hagrid entered the woods during detention. It was here that Harry first encountered the weakened Lord Voldemort drinking unicorn blood and met the centaur Firenze, who rescued him and warned of the dark events unfolding around Hogwarts. The forest continued to play a major role throughout the Harry Potter series and remains one of the most memorable locations in the Wizarding World. Passing through the Hogwarts gates, guests are welcomed by one of Robbie Coltrane's original Hagrid costumes before walking beneath the Forbidden Forests' giant trees. Among the roots stands Buckbeak the Hippogriff, faithfully recreated with individually applied feathers by the Creature Effects team. Visitors can bow respectfully to Buckbeak before continuing deeper into the forest. Further ahead, the atmosphere becomes darker as Aragog emerges from his lair accompanied by countless spiderlings. Created by the film's Creature Effects department, the enormous Acromantula measures more than 18 feet across and recreates the terrifying encounter from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Throughout the area, lighting, fog, sound effects, and interactive weather demonstrations reveal the techniques filmmakers used to bring the Forbidden Forest to life on screen. You can even cast a Patronus charm here in the Forbidden Forest. The Forbidden Forest forms part of the First Year at Hogwarts event, running from 7th May to 7th September 2026 and celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone movie. Throughout the Studio Tour, guests can discover original props, costumes, Wizard Chess pieces, Fluffy the three-headed dog, and interactive experiences inspired by Harry Potter's first year at Hogwarts. Warner Bros. Studio Tour London opened in 2012 at Leavesden Studios, where all eight Harry Potter films were produced. The attraction showcases authentic sets, costumes, props, creature effects, and filmmaking secrets from the Wizarding World. The Forbidden Forest itself was added to the Studio Tour in 2017 and is a popular experiences on the Harry Potter tour. Leavesden Studios is also home to the upcoming HBO Harry Potter television series starring Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The new adaptation is expected to premiere in 2026.
