Description

In 1993, Amtrak received 44 P40DC locomotives from General Electric. These locomotives, named the "Genesis" series, would be the beginning of a new fleet of diesel electric locomotives that would become the face of Amtrak for the next two and a half decades. With the arrival of new ALC-42 long distance Charger locomotives, Amtrak removed the last two P40 locomotives from service in August of 2025. In this video, we will briefly explore the history of the P40 on Amtrak and then take a look at several of these locomotives that I've filmed over the last several years. Nearly half of the original P40 fleet is featured in numerical order.
