Nevada Northern Railway USA 250 SD9 Locomotive

Many railroads are celebrating the 250th anniversary of the US in 2026 by painting up locomotives in special commemorative paint schemes. These units are similar to locomotives that were painted for the US bicentennial back in 1976, and often wear bright, eye catching red, white and blue paint schemes. One of the railroads to take part in this trend was the Nevada Northern Railway, a tourist line based out of Ely, Nevada. Their locomotive number 250, an SD9 type, debuted in its new commemorative scheme on July 4th, 2025. In this video, we'll talk about Nevada Northern 250 and its history. We will then head trackside to see it in action for the railroad's annual winter photography event in February and on a regular excursion run in April.
