Description
IS NOTHING SACRED? They could have used Notepad to hack you 😫
Recently there was a new vulnerability discovered in Notepad. Yes, Windows Notepad, known for being the most basic text editor all time. But no so much anymore. Microsoft has been adding features to it over time, and with more complexity comes more potential for exploits. And turns out this time, with CVE-2026-20841, it had to do with Notepad's Markdown rendering. Specifically how it handled links. It is supposed to warn you when you click a link that doesn't go to a website (such as running a file or system protocol), but it previously didn't. Microsoft has since patched it to fix it in version 11.2510. Fortunately, this was apparently discovered and fixed before any hackers were able to take advantage of it.
