Keeping Lambs Alive In Freezing Conditions

The weather at Ewetopia Farms this lambing season has been so brutally cold that the challenge is keeping lambs alive, healthy, and comfortable in these freezing conditions. In this episode, we tube feed newborn lambs which not only provides their required colostrum immediately after birth but also aids in getting their bodies to heat up thereby helping prevent hypothermia. We also use towels to assist mom in drying off the lambs. If the lambs show signs of still being cold, we wrap them in a towel with a hot water bottle. This usually has them dry in a very short time without the use of heat lamps.
