Description
đ Lost Engine Sheds â Derby 17A đ
Derby wasnât just a railway town â it was a railway powerhouse. And at its heart stood Shed 17A.
From the 1800s right through to the 1960s, this busy steam depot serviced locomotives that worked across Britain. Freight engines, passenger power, even experimental machines â they all passed through Derby.
In the final days of steam, engines like WD 28094, 78000 and 10203 stood here awaiting their fate⊠some for one last duty, others for the scrapyard.
In 1963, the famous 17A code became 16C â a quiet sign that change was coming. As diesel took over, steam faded, and the shed slowly closed.
Today, the buildings are gone â but the legacy lives on through Derby Works, Etches Park, and the memories of Britainâs steam age.
Derby 17A isnât just a shed number⊠itâs a symbol of steamâs final chapter.
