Description
The Claude advisor strategy by Anthropic changes how Claude Code operates. Instead of Claude Opus leading everything, Claude Sonnet handles execution while Opus only advises. This Claude AI approach saves tokens and boosts performance on real projects.

In this video we break down the Claude Code advisor setup and show you exactly how to use advisor tool Claude provides to get more done within your token limits. The advisor strategy Claude introduced flips the usual model hierarchy. Instead of Opus running every task, Sonnet takes over as the executor and Opus steps in as an expert advisor with Claude Code only when deeper reasoning is actually needed.
We tested this strategy advisor Claude setup on three real scenarios: debugging real-time sync issues on an existing codebase, transforming an entire UI to a different component library, and adding a completely new feature to a live app. The Claude advisor mode worked best when the task needed occasional deep reasoning but was mostly straightforward implementation. Sonnet handled routine work on its own and consulted Opus when it hit a wall, which saved significant tokens compared to running Opus for the entire session.
But we also found clear limitations. For large scale UI changes the advisor Claude workflow took 31 minutes because Sonnet handled everything sequentially instead of running parallel sub-agents like Opus would. And when adding a new feature, the executor skipped consulting the advisor entirely and introduced bugs that Opus would have caught. You sometimes need to nudge it yourself to follow the Claude code advisor workflow properly.
The bottom line: for simple to medium complexity apps this Claude advisor approach is genuinely worth using. For complex apps with many connected dependencies, Opus as your main agent is still the better call. This is an ai automation technique that helps you build more within your limits without babysitting the model through every decision.
