Train Cab Ride NL / Intercity Redirected / Amsterdam - Haarlem - Alkmaar / VIRM / Sep 2025

Hi everyone! Back af ter a holiday. Welcome on board a brand new ride. I recorded this one just before I went away for my time off. It was my intention to record this ride all the way to Den Helder, but unfortunately it got too dark for that. So here's a nice sunset ride from Amsterdam via Haarlem to Alkmaar. We got redirected because of construction works. 0:00 Amsterdam Centraal We start at my home base Amsterdam. With a two minute delay we depart in the direction of Haarlem. Because of construction works between Zaandam and Uitgeest we cannot use the normal route. Perfect for a nice recording because you don't see the route Haarlem - Uitgeest a lot on my channel. 1:48 Westelijk Eiland Small shunting yard at Amsterdam Centraal. 3:09 Houtmanspoorbrug (Singelgracht Connection) 4:06 Overbrakerpolder Connection 5:15 Amsterdam Sloterdijk First stop one our route: Sloterdijk. This station has two levels with trains and metro's. The upper level of the station leads to Schiphol and Amsterdam Centraal. The lower level to Amsterdam, Haarlem and Zaandam. There's also a station section on the left side in the upper deck leading to Schiphol and Zaandam. My intercom was not working. Therefor the train manager did another message after mine. We have contact over the transceiver about this to make sure my intercom is working normally. 6:36 Departure Amsterdam Sloterdijk On departure you can see the tracks coming from Schiphol to Zaandam joining in. And for those with a good eye the line coming from the Westhaven towards Zaandam on the far right side of the screen. Not much later we head left towards Haarlem. 10:19 Halfweg-Zwanenburg 13:00 Haarlem Spaarnwoude 13:24 Haarlem Workshop 14:26 Spaarnebrug Two bridges actually. The one on the left (no wires) can be opened separately. 14:43 Haarlem Between this station and Alkmaar we will make not more stops. Haarlem is one of the oldest stations in our country. The first train ever was running on the line between Haarlem and Amsterdam in The Netherlands. 18:20 Departure Haarlem Get ready for a non-stop ride to Alkmaar! After departure you can see the lines to Leiden and Zandvoort on the left side. The incoming intercity comes from the Leiden direction. 20:43 Haarlem Noordelijke Splitsing The track coming from the left is mainly used by freight trains. We're now on the line between Haarlem and Uitgeest. I don't have many recordings on this one so enjoy it! :D 21:29 Bloemendaal This line has many stations in a pretty expansive neighborhood. 22:36 Santpoort Zuid 23:41 Santpoort Noord 24:12 Driehuis 25:20 Velserspoortunnel In this tunnel two speed limits. First 80km/h, halfway 100km/h and then before the end of the tunnel back to 80km/h again. You see that sign (3) at 25:20 underneath the (8) sign? That is the entrance speed for the freight trains entering the tunnel. This to prevent them from hitting the brakes in the tunnel and possibly stranding the train. 27:34 Beverwijk On the left side the track coming from the Hoogovens joining in. Those tracks are used by freight trains. 29:33 Heemskerk 30:30 Closing in on Uitgeest 31:21 Uitgeest (Sunset) The tracks coming from Zaandam joining in on the right. This would've been the normal line this train would've taken if there were no construction works going on. Enjoy the last bit of the sunset after Uitgeest btw! :D After Uitgeest there's a delayed sprinter train running ahead of us. Therefor we take it easy with the speed until the other trains almost arrived in Alkmaar. 34:57 Castricum Normally this train makes stop at this station, but not today. Don't ask me why. ;) 38:27 Onze Lieve Vrouw ter Noord Heiloo Not in use anymore. In the far past this platform was used for the biggest Dutch place of pilgrimage nearby. 38:51 Closing in Closing in on the delayed Sprinter ahead. That's why the signal shows green just before we arrive here. 39:32 Heiloo Normally we'll make stops here as well. But not today. After Heiloo we speed up the train again because the sprinter has almost reached Alkmaar. 41:01 Train Problems? The train ahead runs extremely slow and it's delay get's bigger and bigger. Don't know why but we must slow down again causing a small delay for our passengers. 44:04 Alkmaar Final stop for this video. On arrival at Alkmaar you can still see the delayed sprinter waiting for departure on the right. Something was wrong with it because we got a little extra delayed in the Den Helder direction.
