Ozala Walks Past the Lettuce What Is She After

*Watch Asante’s clever climbing move and Silverback Oumbi’s "builder" stance at Twycross Zoo. Why did the troop reject the fresh lettuce? Is there a hidden social rule at play during feeding time?* Asante is the first to come out today. Since she is the lowest-ranking member of the Twycross Zoo gorilla troop, she takes her chance to gather food early. Watch for her signature move where she tucks her food between her shoulder and head, leaving her hands completely free to climb up to her favourite spot. Next, Shufai makes an appearance and sticks his head right into the lettuce. Curiously, he throws it away! It looked fresh, but perhaps the smell wasn't quite right for him? Ozala is out next and walks straight past the lettuce, heading directly for the food pellets instead. Silverback Oumbi follows close behind. He later grabs the very lettuce leaves Shufai rejected and Ozala ignored. By the afternoon, Asante is doing her best to stay away from Oumbi. When Ozala walks past him later, Oumbi lets out a bit of a grump. With that powerful stance as he comes through the door, he really is like a builder on a building site!
