There are different kinds of lies. Some lies only work if the person hearing them might reasonably believe them. They depend on uncertainty, confusion, or missing information. If the lie is exposed, it fails. But there’s another kind of lie that works even if everyone knows it’s false. The teller assumes that whether something is true or not just…doesn’t really matter. That’s kind of lie changes how a society works. I don't think you can have a democracy where no one cares about reality. If reality doesn't matter...then what does?  I'm not going to answer that question for you, but I think you should have an answer.
