THIRST OF THE HEART | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (March 8, 2026) with Sign Language Today is the third Sunday of Lent. In the Gospel, we would hear Jesus engaging a Samaritan woman in a conversation by the well of Jacob. An action, which was considered a transgression of the Jewish practice at that time. But it is good news for us today due to the hardening of differences, the Jews and the Samaritans shared nothing in common, even cops. Thus the woman remarked, how can you a Jew ask me a Samaritan woman for a drink? Yet the good news was proclaimed here, brothers and sisters. The Messiah, awaited by both the Jews and the Samaritans, revealed himself to the woman as a thirsty traveler, but who in the end quenched her thirst for acceptance and respect. Transformed by their encounter, she brought her townspeople to come and see the one whom she believed to be the Christ. Later they told the woman, we no longer believe because of your word, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the savior of the world. Friends, God reaches out to all of us in Jesus. His grace and generosity cannot be limited by the rules and restrictions that we create. Jesus sees the thirst of our heart. Let us open the dryness of our souls to him. He will give living water to all.
