And as a millennial who grew up in conservative, small-town Texas, I lived it. The messaging from purity pledges, rings, and rallies didn't just teach abstinence—it taught a generation that their bodies were dangerous, inherently wrong, or something to be feared. Today, we’re breaking down the real physical, psychological, and medical damage caused by purity culture, and talking about how we can unlearn the shame to build healthy, empowered relationships with our bodies and sexual health.
