During these trips, we made a heartbreaking discovery — the dog meat trade is still widespread in many areas. As pet owners and animal lovers, we were shocked. Many of these dogs were once family companions. Now, they’re crammed into tiny cages, starved for days, and slaughtered — often while sick or injured. We couldn’t stay silent. So we founded MatePet, a grassroots charity dedicated to rescuing dogs from the meat trade and spreading awareness about this cruel reality. Since then, we've opened two rescue centers in China and saved over 1,100 dogs from slaughter.
