Cars from the early 2000s are often treated like the golden era of driving. Lightweight, analogue, hydraulic steering, Japanese reliability… on paper, the Toyota Corolla T Sport should be exactly the kind of car enthusiasts romanticise. So why did it disappoint me so much? In this episode of Steering Feel Review, I take a 2003 Toyota Corolla T Sport out on real roads to find out how it actually feels to drive today. I break down the steering feel, feedback and response during spirited driving, along with what the car is like during normal everyday use. What surprised me most was just how loose and disconnected the steering felt when pushing on. Despite the car’s reputation and old-school roots, it never really communicated the way I hoped it would. But at the same time, there are still glimpses of why these older Japanese cars are so loved. This series isn’t about performance figures or lap times. It’s about how cars actually feel from behind the wheel. If you care about steering feel, driver engagement and whether older cars really are better, this one’s worth watching.
