We are super excited to be taking our 13th flight tomorrow heading down to Global Pet Expo. We are flying Air Canada so we will be going from Calgary to Toronto first before we head to Orlando so we've got a long day ahead of us. But just as I do for every trip, I've been getting Waffles accustomed to his carrier. He's pretty comfortable in it, but I've actually been having him sleep in it the last couple weeks. Surprisingly he is choosing to sleep in it with it unzipped. I did find that kind of interesting, but it does show me that he feels safe in there. And that's the key. And then we also like to do some prep such as having him stay in the carrier when I'm driving around in the car. That just gets him used to being in the bag while there's movement and sound. And once again this year, I did head back up to the airport last weekend and spent about three hours up there just wandering around with him, sometimes I would just sit there and let him relax and take it all in. In some ways, I almost feel like it's more for me than for him because I know exactly how he's going to react when we're at the airport and it allows me to make a judgment call if I think he's not up for the flight. Flying with your pet can be quite stressful if they aren't prepared so it is important that you do everything you can to make sure they're comfortable. Waffles is not a service dog so he does have to remain in his carrier during the entire flight. I will sometimes sneak my iPhone down into his bag just to get some video of him to make sure that he's resting comfortably, but other than that, I try not to disturb him.
